When & What

This is a great game when introducing iterative ways of working, such as Scrum. It highlights the benefits not only of early feedback loops, but also the importance of collaboration, self-organisation and working together as a team. While observing the game, you can learn a lot about the team’s communication and collaboration patterns. It can also be a fun way to create a better understanding of flow and sustainable pace.

Select format

Where people join from different places, work at different speeds and rhythms, the challenge lies in running activities that feel cohesive and aligned. As a facilitator, you hold the key to three distinct designs: one for in-person participants, one for virtual attendees, and one to bridge the two groups.

The ball point game you can run as a mix of the In person format and Remote format if you have enough participants for both types of teams.

If you have less than 5 in person participants

Follow the Remote instructions. Make sure in person people are spread out so that they do not hear and distract each other.

If you have less than 5 virtual participants

It is too small to have a virtual team, so the option is still to make it fully remote. Make sure in person people are spread out so that they do not hear and distract each other.

If you have more than 10 virtual participants

Avoid having virtual teams bigger than 10 people. Create separate boards and assign them into breakout rooms per team.

Have a large space for running an in person team.

Remember that you cannot compare virtual and in-person results. Also ensure you give an equal time and attention for virtual and in person participants during the debrief.
